Our dear mother, Jean Mary Tibbitts Braegger , 91, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Paula, on May 10, 2011 in Taylorsville, Utah.
Jean was born December 17, 1919 in Providence, Utah, to Elmer Moody and Lena Yost Tibbitts. She grew up in Providence and attended schools in Cache Valley. She graduated from South Cache High School where she was active as a song leader and in student government.
She married Delmer Braegger, a life long friend, in the Logan Temple on November 4, 1948. They moved into a small house on a two-acre lot in Providence where they lived their entire life.
Jean was a great homemaker. She made wonderful pies, bread and rolls. She sewed all of the clothes for her four daughters…countless dresses, and everything from a swimsuit to a prom dress. She loved to crochet and do all types of handwork to beautify her home.
Jean was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in all organizations.
Jean inherited the love of music from her mother. She and her sister sang together when they were very small and she continued to sing in groups throughout her life. She passed this love of music on to her own daughters and taught them how to sing in three-part harmony. She accompanied the girls on the ukulele as they performed all over the valley.
Jean and Del both enjoyed working together in their yard and spent endless hours in their “Garden of Eden.” Jean had a ‘green thumb’ and Del built her a greenhouse where she could start their flowers from seed. They had a variety of flowers in their yard, but people especially admired the beautiful begonias.
Jean was active in temple work and genealogy. Besides attending the temple weekly, Jean and Del worked in the Spanish extraction program which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Jean’s family was the center of her life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She enjoyed picnics, reunions, birthday parties and shopping with her girls. Besides her own family, she loved her association with Del’s family and has appreciated their friendship over the years.
Jean had a great listening ear and always had time for anyone who called or stopped by for a visit. Jean was a blessing and strength to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Teina Forsberg (Lynn) Clearfield, Brenda Nelson (Dennis) Mantua, Leslie Clark (Alan), Smithfield and Paula Jensen (Kelley) Taylorsville; a brother, Marcell Tibbitts, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer, a son, Bruce, a brother, Elmer Jr., and a sister, Dyrene Yeates.
A special thanks to Paula and Kelley and their family for taking such good care of mother, and the Rocky Mountain Home Health Care and Hospice in Logan and in Taylorsville, for their kindness and loving care.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Providence church, 309 South Main. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, and prior to services at the church on Tuesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Burial will take place in the Providence City Cemetery. so perfect you guys did a great job on it! I am excited to see you soon.Hang in there love you
Your Mom and my Mom sound so much alike! I never realized that our family backgrounds were similar. They were even born in the same year. I'm just a tad jealous that you got your Mom here on Earth for so much longer--my Mom left 19 years ago. I hope today is a bonding day for you and yours--what you've just been through is life-altering. You've been focusing on learning, serving, and sharing--just like you always do. Thanks for letting us peek into your private thoughts and feelings.
