What a wonderful day!  KC graduated from college!
It's been a long rough road to get here, but he made it! I don't think I've ever seen anyone study the way he has.  He would start studying soon after he would get home from school,  then continue usually till he went to bed. His classes were hard!!!  So much math and science and brainy stuff!  I would look at his homework and just laugh cause it looked like a foreign language!
He has always gotten good grades and expected no less of himself in college.  He was on the Deans list and was given grants for his good grades which was even more incentive.  The classes he had towards the end of the course were pretty intense though and although he studied his brains out, he still struggled  and had to let go of the idea of perfect grades and just focus on getting through it!  This was all while working almost full time at L3.
This was another blessing that came along the way...KC started out college seeking a degree in law.
He wanted to be a patent lawyer.  The more he got into it though, and the more he talked to people about it, the less sure he felt this was the way to go.  He talked to Gordon about it, who has been a great friend and mentor to him all his life and KC decided to change his path and try engineering.  This made more sense because with this degree he could actually build the things he would have been just talking about and writing papers about with the law degree.
After he was well into his studies for mechanical engineering, he applied for an internship at L3.  We're sure grateful to Gordon for putting in a good word for him because it's not easy to get on there, and after a couple months of waiting and hoping, they called KC to come in for an interview.
Their internship program there was pretty sweet.  Here KC could learn more about what they do there, help other employees, and pretty much do all the stuff they don't want to do. They do about a million tests on everything they make there and that's what KC got to do.  Testing every piece, in every situation, to make sure the parts would hold up.  I think he found it pretty boring at first, but they were paying him and would work with his school schedule so he was pretty happy to have it.  After a while, he got to do different and more interesting projects and got to where he liked it there.
A couple of months ago, they asked him if he would like to be a full time salaried employee.  KC was  thrilled and grateful for the opportunity.
Kelley's mom was always telling the kids they needed to go to college and was so thrilled that Katie had chosen to do so.  I'm pretty sure she was feeling proud and smiling down on KC on this special day.

A few pictures from the graduation ceremony...

We got there early so we could get a good seat, then had to entertain ourselves while we waited for it to start....yeah all of this happened  Ha!  We bring Camille into the picture and it gets even better

The program was actually very good. I especially liked the talk from a student that had excelled in many things but was being recognized for the good influence and help he had given the other students.I thought that was admirable...I mean who cares about  what grades you got, but if you can touch someones life and help them out, that will be something that will stay with you and you'll always remember.
They had it divided up into the different kinds of engineering and although there were a couple thousand graduates, they were well organized and it went along pretty quickly.

Many thanks to Candice for moving down to where she could get some good pictures

 How cool is that!!!

After it was over, we found KC in the hallway and went outside to take some pictures

KC chose Village Baker for celebration lunch and it worked out just perfect! We had planned on getting our food to go and taking it to Red Butte garden to eat, but it had gotten too late to do that so we just stayed there.  It was such a nice day, we ate outside.

I got him a cheese cake and decorated it a little for the occasion.  We sure do love you KC !
Just a little p.s.  Last week KC text me and said he wants to get his masters degree!  He found out his work will pay for it so he's going to start in the fall!
