This was the coolest thing to see!  Kevin had gotten up early and gone on a date the day before and when he got home he showed us some pictures he had taken.  They were of little turtles making their way to the water.  He said there are some people that are trying to help more turtles survive so they watch for turtles to come lay their eggs, then they dig them up and re bury them in these cages.  They mark the date they were buried then come back 45 days later when the turtles have hatched and help them get to the ocean.  He said there were more that were ready to hatch so the next day Kelley and I got up early and headed down to the beach where  all the cages were.
There wasn't anyone there but as we looked in the cages, we could see that there were lots of turtles in there. After a few minutes, a few more people started showing up.  One guy came by and said the guy who lets them loose was on his way.
In the mean time, some of the turtles had escaped the cages and were trying to make their way to the water. The one guy that was there said they like to let them all go at once so we cornered the few that had got out and put them in a little area of rocks so they couldn't get out.
When the main guy showed up, he went in and opened up the cages and put all the turtles in some big crates.  When he had them all gathered up, he brought them down closer to the water.  He talked to all of us that had gathered there and told us about what they were trying to do.  It was pretty cool to hear about them.  Then he let them go.  They were so cute, just paddling away trying to get down to the water.
Katie and Jimmy had showed up by this time and Jimmy was filming it with his Go-Pro.  He got some great footage, but unfortunately, got his phone wet in the process.  They tried everything to dry it out but it was fried.

The guy told us that only one turtle in one thousand actually makes it to adulthood.  Even as we were watching, the seagulls were swooping in to pick them up.  The guy told us not to try and stop them, that it was just the way it goes.  It was hard to watch...Ha ha Mark was chasing the seagulls swatting and cussing at them.
Anyway, the whole thing was pretty incredible to witness.
