Ann ordered all the supplies and collected all the tools they would need to build her garden wall. She is so funny. She put a lot of thought into this wall! At first she wanted it bigger, asked Kelley to figure the cost of the block and cement, then had us all look at the spot...what do you think? Maybe a little smaller...ok now figure out what the cost would be for this size...and what about the corner poles to hold up the barrier so no critters can get in? She had really thought of everything.
On Tuesday, Kelley headed up there early to get a start on it.
Katie and I were going to go to La Fogata and get breakfast for everyone but they were closed so we went down to Martines. We were thinking about when grampa was there sitting in those chairs and missing him.
We went up to Anns and saw Kelley had dug the whole trench. It was really hot, but he kept working. Kate and I asked what we could do and Kelley put us to work. We carried the block and set them all around where he was going to lay them. Then when he started laying the block, we would come behind him and fill in the spaces between the block with morter. Within a few minutes, we were dripping with sweat. Ann was working right along with us filling up all the cracks. I guess in places like Mexico, they don't have lime to mix with the cement so it's a lot harder to work with. It didn't stay where you put it and would just fall out when we put it in the cracks so we turned it into a three person job...Kate and I would hold our trowel on the sides, then Ann would fill up the crack. It worked out pretty well, but took a long time. By late afternoon we had about had it. I seriously feared for Kelley having a heat stroke. About this time, these super annoying little bugs called bobos came out in full force. We were all so sweaty, they would just stick to us when they landed on us. We decided to call it a day.
Another incredibly beautiful full moon...
