I'm a little behind. But this was really cool so I don't want to leave it out.
Our stake was chosen to help with the special Olympics.  We had nine of our young women show up so i thought that was pretty good for a Saturday morning.
This was out at Bingham high school.  I remember when our stake helped with it years ago up at the U. It was a pretty cool experience.  Well as soon as we got all registered they sent our girls over to the awards area.  The gal in charge told us we would be doing all the awards and presentation of ribbons and medals.
We thought that sounded good and the girls all wanted to jump in and help.
The leader showed us what we would be doing, then we all went over to watch the opening ceremonies. It was so sweet when they announced each group they would march down the track waving and cheering.  The crowd in the stands all waved and cheered for each group.
These two boys in the yellow were so awesome.  They were doing karate moves all along the way, then they would stop and high five each other and raise their arms up like they had just won the championship of the world!  You couldn't help but catch their enthusiasm.
Then we went over to get the awards all ready.  This is very serious business.  They time and measure each event very officially, then write the times and distances on a paper and send it over to us with one of the athletes that participated in that event.  We were supposed to look at the numbers and decided who was first, second and so on.  Then we had to copy the results onto another paper and send that along with the medals they won over to the awards presentation people ( that was our young men!)
It all started out good...just one or two coming in with their papers...we kept up just fine.  Then all of the events started getting finished so everybody was bringing their papers all at once.  I was going as fast as I could, but the papers were piling up. hen the athletes would come and say "when are you going to give the awards for this event?"  (which was at the bottom of the pile)  We'd tell them we were working on it and it would just be a few minute....but they didn't really get "in a few minutes and just kept asking about every  15 seconds.  So I got Emily and Calle to help me.  They did a great job.. kept all the papers in order and really kept things organized.  There  were a few mistakes, and the athletes let us know about it!  They take this very seriously and knew where they came in in the race! We tried our best to make everyone happy.  It was great to watch the youth interact with the athletes....I think they learned a lot that day about  how special these people are, and a little about themselves too.
I was tickled to see on facebook later that day a comment from Destiny (not a member, but an amazing young woman who comes to a lot of our activities)  She said she had had a great experience that she wouldn't trade for anything.  Very cool.
