Kelley and I were able to go on a fun cruise in mid January. I think it was one of the funnest times we've had. We went on a Holland America cruise ship for the first time and it was really nice. There were a few things that they did differently but overall it was a wonderful experience!
This is leaving the port in Ft. Lauderdale
Okay this was the funniest thing...Kelley and Dan are always looking for some new challenge or competition to entertain themselves and this trip it was balancing on these balls in the gym. Dan decided he was so good at it, he should put on a show for the cruise passengers. He named his show "The great Dandini" There really are no words to describe these two when they get together, they are so goofy...lets just say we laugh a lot.
The first island we went to was called Half moon Cay. It was Holland America's private island. It was so pretty there. They had it all fixed up like a pirate's island that was really fun! The beach was just beautiful and they had a real nice buffet for us.
This cute mama and her babies joined us for lunch.
This was on a sea day...lots of time for practicing the "show"
This was in Grand Cayman. It was cloudy and threatening rain, but so warm we didn't care.
The next day was Cozumel. Definitely our funnest day. We wanted to see some different places, so after a lot of debating, we went to the car rental place across the street from the port. Unfortunately, because we had taken so long to get over there, all the good jeeps had been rented for the day. The guy said he had just one left. We went and looked at it and it looked pretty scary. The guy was like "oh it's allright, it will run just fine!" We debated a little longer, then decided to take a chance. We knew right off we had probably made a mistake. No air conditioning. And it was hot. So we rode with the windows down...not that big of a deal. We drove down the little road quite a way to go a beach the guy who rented us the car had told us about. When we got there, and got out to check out the beach, it was super windy. The waves were crashing up on the shore and there was no way we could have sat on that beach. When we got back in the car, Dan had a real hard time starting it. He tried and tried and it just wouldn't turn over. Ha! So we sat for a few minutes and let it rest, then he tried it again and it started up! We drove through some jungle areas to some Myan ruins and a temple that were also on our little map. We were a little nervous to turn the car off, but wanted to look around, so we parked it and walked through the temple and the little shops. It was pretty cool. When we got back in the car it did the same thing again, but it did finally start. Our last stop was at a pretty little beach. After having to coax the car to start, we headed back to the port. Dan was so fed up with the dumb car by then, that when the guy at the rental place told him he needed to pay more for the gas we used, Dan said no way! The guy wasn't going to back down either, and I thought they were going to come to blows. It wasn't the matter of the money, but that the guy had rented us a piece of junk and wanted to get more money out of us. He did have Dan's drivers license though so he had to finally give in and pay him to get it back.
We were able to laugh about it later, but at the time Dan was fired up!
The last stop was Florida Key's. It was such a pretty place! We walked around the little city, then took a open air bus tour. The driver was telling us about all the sites we were seeing and was really a hoot to listen to.
It was interesting to learn about the history of this place...it was a refuge for lots of famous people...
This is a big tourist attraction...the most southern point in the US...there was a line a mile long to get your picture taken in front of the marker...we thought the picture from the bus was just fine!
Fun to see this landmark Jimmy sings about... This whole town has so much character...I felt like it had a hundred stories to tell.
Sure had a wonderful time with my sweetie this trip. I feel like the older we get, the more we enjoy the time we get to spend together. I guess that might come from knowing we have less time ahead of us than behind us and we want to make the most of every moment.
