Another fun Halloween come and gone. Gosh I love Halloween!
So when  was in Arizona, Candice called and asked if I would help her with a costume when I got home. Sure, We would be a little tight on time, but I figured we could get something together.
We started looking at ideas on pinterest and thought we would try to make her an old man. I remember Katie dressed as an old man one year and it was pretty awesome.  So Candice and I rummaged through the Halloween boxes looking for the old bald head wig.  No luck.  So we headed to the costume store to find one.  They were all out so we checked at another Halloween store.  They were out too, so we decided to go a different route.  Candice had the idea of a piece of pizza.  Seemed easy enough and Kelley had a big box we could use, so Saturday morning, Candice came over and we went to work on it.  We cut a pizza shape out, but it seemed too small, so we decided to go dumpster diving for a bigger box.  We drove around to several dumpsters, but the big boxes were already all flattened and tied up and ready to be recycled.  We went into walmart to get a few other things and asked if they had any big boxes we could have. They said they would look and brought us out a great big one.  We got all checked out and went out to the car.  I try to start it and it does the same thing it had done a couple days before....just makes a click noise and then nothing. When it had happened before, it was when KC and I were headed over to the farm, so KC had just drove his car.  I had told Kelley about it and he said he would look at it when he got home.  Then when KC and I got home, I tried the car again and it started right up....this always happens and makes me feel like I'm losing my marbles or else Kelley will just try it and it will start right up!
Well anyway, I tried the car a few times, we waited a few minutes, tried it again, and still no go, so we called Kelley.  He did not answer.  So we called KC.  He did not answer either.  We didn't know what else to do, so we just picked up our big cardboard  box and groceries and started walking home.  Luckily, it was a nice day and I had worn my comfy shoes.  We got a call back from Kelley when we were about half way home and told him what had happened.  He must have headed home from the farm right after that cause he got there about the same time we did.   He had Will look at the car and said we needed a new starter motor.  Ha! not crazy after all!
Candice and I got busy with the bigger box...this is Lizzy helping measure the size of the pizza.  Seriously so funny...she wanted to be right on top of Candice!.
So we were able to cut a pretty big piece  with this box...then we took it outside and spray painted it red.  The crust started out with just some brown fabric...then we thought it should be more 3-D so I got out my stuffing and we made puffy stuffed crust.  It looked pretty awesome when we  sprayed it with this adhesive and sprinkled corn meal over it!  We had bought some chunky yellow yarn at walmart and it worked out perfect for the cheese. Candice was going vegetarian pizza (naturally) so she had bought some big portabello mushrooms and peppers for toppings.  They looked pretty cool when we cut them up and glued them on.

Next we needed to figure out how she could wear it.  We tried inventing all these different shoulder straps and head bands, but they were not working very good.  Then Kelley comes in and says "why don't you just put your head through the hole and wear it like that!"  Ha!  That worked perfect!

One problem...you couldn't really reach your mouth....

We were pretty pleased with the finished costume...until we tried to get it into Candices car.  KC was helping us and we tried every angle possible...  (I'm sure it would have been pretty funny to watch us  trying to fit this giant piece of pizza in her car). it just wouldn't fit in her little car.  Then we decided to roll down the window and try again and it fit!  She had to drive with the window down, but  it was in!  We had a lot of fun that day!...So glad Candice is close by so we can do things like this together!
She said it was a big hit at her Halloween party Saturday night.

We started the popcorn balls early this  morning... Kelley was a sweetie and helped me a ton.  We decided to get all the popcorn done first.  This was the first year I have used the hot air popper to do the popcorn.  I love how it makes such big fluffy popcorn and pops all the kern3els.  We got about half done, and the popper over heats.  We let it cool a big and it still wouldn't start so Kelley ran to the walmarts and came home  with a different brand of popper.  We gave it a try and it didn't  work nearly as well as the old popper...it left a lot of kernels unpopped, and the ones that did pop were much smaller. I was bummed and just figured that was what we were stuck with.  I went to unplug the old popper and it started going !...I guess it just hadn't cooled enough.  So we decided to try it again...letting it rest in between batches so it wouldn't over heat again.

This is probably Lizzy's favorite day!  There is a lot of popcorn that drops on the floor while we are making those balls!

Kelley helped me wrap them up and we  ended up with about 160 popcorn balls.   Denza and I went out visiting teaching and I took some to my ladies.

Candice won their costume contest at work today!

Lots of trick or treaters tonight...it's always fun to see kids who have grown up and left the neighborhood come back with their own kids to trick or treat!
Sure was missing this bunch though.  How I long to be one of those grandparents out trick or treating with the grandkids...I sure hope some day I'll get my wish.  I guess until then I'll be glad for pictures and a sweet daughter that trys to make me feel included from a thousand miles away.
